Catholics "Need Not Apply"

The Democrats in Massachusetts are panicking and going negative on Scott Brown as the most liberal state in the union is on the verge of electing a Republican senator campaigning on his opposition to the health care and other spending bills that Obama has tried to ram through in the midst of a recession. A string of polls now show him neck and neck with the Democratic candidate, Martha Coakley.

The US may celebrate one year of Obama by electing the 41st vote against the Obama agenda in the US Senate. Americans should thank God for their very conservative system of checks and balances that prevents even an extremely left wing president and congress from destroying the country with ease.

Martha Coakley, the party hack nominated by the Democrats to occupy the seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy, has seen her lead evaporate and independents turn away from her as the race to replace Ted Kennedy goes down to the wire on Tuesday. Now, she is panicking and saying all sorts of stupid things (like calling Curt Shilling a Yankees fan - yes, that Curt Schilling - he of the bloody sock).

Now, a flyer is being circulated that claims that Scott Brown wants to turn all rape victims away from hospitals just because he thinks that hospital personal should not be forced to participate in abortions or handing out the morning after pill (a form of early abortion) against their consciences. Martha Coakley thinks that neither Catholics not anyone else, for that matter, should have conscience rights in a democracy. They should be forced to participate in what their consciences say in grave evil or lose their jobs. Here is how she explained it in an interview:

“Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that.

Martha Coakley: No we have a separation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.

Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.

Martha Coakley: (…stammering) The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.”

If you are against abortion, you can't work in emergency rooms! So she wants to interpret separation of church and state to mean separation of church and hospital and probably church and school and church and court and so on. In other words, the doctrine that says that one church should not be established but that all churches should be equally free in American society is being twisted by liberals to imply that serious Christians have no right to live by their consciences if they don't agree with the politically correct, liberal view of the majority.

Catholics in Massachusetts remember that it was not so long ago that "Help Wanted" signs in Boston has penciled in below "Irish Need Not Apply." Now it is "Catholics Need Not Apply" and soon it will be "Christians Need Not Apply." What a vile, hate-filled position to take. Anti-Catholicism is disgusting - the dirty little vice of liberal Democrats. Why any Catholic would ever vote for this crew is a matter for sociologists, if not psychologists, to explain.

Scott Brown has announced that he is filing a criminal complaint about this flyer. Good for him. It doesn't get much nastier than this. However, the Coakley campaign may soon be defending itself against another legal action as well; I hope they don't spend all their campaign funds on TV attack ads. UPS is not amused by another Democratic flyer in which the Coakley campaign infringes its trademark in order to slam Scott Brown. According to the Boston Herald, the Atlanta-based company has demanded that the distribution of the mailing be stopped.

What a sweet irony it would be if the vote to kill the heath care take over came from Ted Kennedy's old seat. And how scared will Democrats be if "liberal" Massachusetts elects a Republican senator for the first time since the mid-1970s just to stop the Obama agenda? It is like a Democrat running on a platform of gun control and gay marriage getting elected in Texas.

This health care bill, besides running up the debt without insuring everyone, would be the biggest expansion of abortion funding in American history. This is Obama's way of keeping his promise to NARAL that he would see to it that federal funding for abortion is made available to everyone. And if you are pro-life you are expected to believe that providing more funding for abortion is the best way to reduce the number of abortions. And, if you believe that you probably think they can cut 500 million out of Medicare without affecting coverage for senior one iota.

Obama ran as a centrist but for a year now has been governing from the far left. He doesn't seem to care that unemployment is 10% or that the national debt is ballooning. All he cares about is stimulus (pork barrel) bills, cap and trade, health care and other spending. His answer to every problem is spend more and increase government bureaucracy and regulation of every detail of life. The American people are not ready for European-style social democracy and they are not ready for out of control growth of big government. And they are ready to kick this new set of bums out of office in record time.
